In Leipzig, Germany, on April 3-4, 2025, a major international interdisciplinary professional congress was held, dedicated to the issues of assessing destruction and reconstruction in Ukraine. The event was attended by the President of the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture, Professor Oleg Sleptsov, full member of the UAA Professor Bohdan Cherkes, and corresponding member of the UAA Professor Andriy Pavliv. The symposium was organized by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany, the Saxon Academy of Arts, the city of Leipzig, the Saxon State Chancellery, the Leibniz Institute for Central and Eastern Europe (GWZO), the Technical University of Aachen, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, and the National University "Lviv Polytechnic".
Over 40 participants of the congress delivered presentations and took part in discussions in three thematic blocks: "Heritage and Destruction in Ukraine", "Big Plans, Small Repairs, and the Practice of Reconstruction" and "Architectural Culture of the Petrine Modern and Reconstruction in Ukraine".
As part of the congress, an agreement was reached on the signing of a cooperation agreement between the President of the UAA, Prof. Oleg Sleptsov, and the President of the Saxon Academy of Arts, Prof. Wolfgang Höller. Both sides emphasized that the collaboration between the Academies would serve the interests of Ukraine's European integration, its reconstruction, and the rapprochement of the Ukrainian and German peoples in the fields of architecture, urban planning, culture, and the arts.
