On January 26, 2022, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed in Sumy between the head of the Sumy Regional State Administration, Dmytro Zhivytsky, and the President of the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture, Oleg Sleptsov, as well as a meeting on the issue of holding the All-Ukrainian Open Architectural Competition for the best project proposal for the reconstruction of Independence Square in the city of Sumy. Oleh Sleptsov, president of the Academy, was elected as the head of the competition jury.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the Sumy Regional Council Viktor Fedorchenko, First Deputy Chairman of the Sumy Regional State Administration Taras Savchenko, People's Deputy of Ukraine Mykhailo Ananchenko, Vice President of the Academy Mykola Dyomin, Corresponding Member of the UAA, Laureate of the State Awards of Ukraine in the Field of Architecture, Honored Architect of Ukraine Volodymyr Bykov , chairman of the board of the Sumy regional organization of the National Union of Architects of Ukraine, member of the public council under the executive committee of the Sumy city council Oleg Pavlenko.
