On September 14, 2021, the long-awaited General Assembly of the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture (UAA) was held in the walls of the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUBA).
The last General Assembly of the UAA was held in December 2007, so for almost fifteen years the Academy did not fulfill its statutory obligations due to a number of objective circumstances.
The agenda of the General Assembly included two issues: the report of the Presidium of the Academy and the election of a new president of the UAA.
The meeting was opened by the vice-president of the UAA academician Mykola Dyomin, who made an overview report on the state of affairs, emphasizing that, like foreign public organizations, the UAA has every reason to once again become the mouthpiece of the country's architectural workshop, to loudly declare support for practicing architects, to stand in defense of the profession as such Mykola Dyomin report was approved by those present at the Meeting.
Academician Ivan Nazarenko, President of the Construction Academy of Ukraine, Academician Oleksandr Chyzhevskyi, President of the National Union of Architects of Ukraine, Academician Oleksandr Chyzhevsky, Professor of the Department of Urban Construction of KNUBA, Academician Volodymyr Nudelman, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture of KNUBA, Academician Oleksandr Kashchenko, Professor of the National University "Lviv Polytechnic" Academician Viktor Proskuryakov, other valid members and corresponding members of the UAA.
In accordance with the chairman's proposal, nominations were proposed for election as the president of the Academy. Academician Valery Urenyov (Odesa) proposed to include the candidacy of Academician Oleg Sleptsov in the ballot for secret voting, which was enthusiastically supported by those present (Academician Serhii Chechelnytskyi, Academician Viktor Timokhin, Academician Andriy Puchkov, Corresponding Member Maryna Avdeeva and others). Academician Yanosh Vig and corresponding member Andrii Myrhorodskyi, whose candidacies for the post of UAA president were also offered to be considered, recused themselves.
As a result of a secret, almost unanimous vote, those present at the UAA General Meeting elected academician of the UAA, laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of architecture, People's Architect of Ukraine, doctor of architecture, Professor Oleh Sleptsov, head of the Department of Fundamentals of Architecture and Architectural Design of the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture, as the president of the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture.
