The Ukrainian Academy of Architecture has summarized the results of the first All-Ukrainian student competition for the best proposal for the architectural and planning organization of the public space of Maidan Nezalezhnosti in the city of Sumy.
In the future, the competition is planned to be scaled up to solve urban planning issues of territorial communities, especially those whose infrastructure was destroyed due to the war.
"We held only the first such student architectural competition. But he is definitely not the last. I am sure that together with you we will not only rebuild Ukraine, we will make it even better. This competition showed that young people look at the world differently. Experienced architects would emphasize the administrative, political function of the main square of the city, the main square of the entire region. But you first thought about public space - a place for meetings and communication. There is less formality in your works, more kindness. This is exactly how the future of Ukraine should be."
