On September 25-27, 2022, at the invitation of Europa Nostra (a pan-European federation of associations created to promote and protect European cultural heritage and the natural environment), the Sofia Kyivska National Reserve took part in the European Summit of Cultural Heritage ֺ2022 in Prague. The summit was organized in cooperation and with the support of the European Commission and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, within the framework of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
On Sunday, September 25, 2022, as part of the "Excellence Day" (Day of Achievements), the official representatives of the Reserve presented the project "Emergency and repair and restoration works on St. Andrew's Church". These complex scientific and restoration works were carried out for twelve years. The completed restoration project was submitted by the reserve to the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards 2022. At the end of June, "Europa Nostra" experts determined the laureates, among whom was St. Andrew's Church in the "Restoration and adaptive use" nomination. Ukraine has never been honored with such a prestigious award in the last thirty years.
On Monday, September 26, the award ceremony for the winners of the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards 2022 took place in the recently restored State Opera of the Czech Republic. Awards were received by 31 projects from 18 European countries in six different nominations. On September 30, 2022, at the invitation of Cherwell College Oxford, Oxford University Ukrainian Society, as part of the festival "Ukrainian Culture Weeks '2022", a lecture by the director general of the National Reserve "Sofia Kyivska" was held in The Sheldonian Theater for the teaching staff of the university, colleges, students and everyone interested ", Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine, academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture Neli Kukovalska on the topic: "Sophia Cathedral of the 11th century in Kyiv". The speech had considerable interest, especially among scientists, worked to create a positive image of Ukraine, highlighted its deep history, the peculiarities of the architectural style of St. Sophia Cathedral, its high artistic value for world civilization.
